MENTAL!!

by cheryl
(Singapore)

Hi! Although I have been climbing for about a year now, my friends do comment that sometimes they feel I am able to complete a route if my mental mindset was stronger.

How do i "strengthen" this mentality?

What are some practical steps that I can take to improve my mindset?

Cheryl that is a great question. You mindset is huge when it comes to rock climbing and there are a lot of climbers that are held back by their mindset.

First I am going to let you know that it is tough to answer this question in this short answer but I will do my best and direct you to more information. Fair enough? I hope so...

Let me explain that your on the right track. It is important to notice and become conscious of this fear/anxiety because not until your conscious of it can you do anything about it.

As humans we are made to have a fear of heights it is a natural instinct. When we are climbing some of us get scarred and that is ok, but it can certainly limit our abilities.

So here are some steps to help.

1. Ask yourself why you are scarred because most of the time you are just letting your mind run wild and make you scarred.

2. You must focus on the task at hand. Focus on the climbing in front of you. Don't think about how high you are above your bolt, how bad the holds are, etc. Focus on the task at hand. Use your breathing to calm you down and keep you focused.

3. Trust your gear, your partner, and your abilities. You must begin to trust all that you are and your abilities.

That's where you should start begin to master that and you will be well on your way. For more information on improving your climbing and your mindset check out http://www.rockclimbingmadeeasy.com
