Rope climbing

by Anders
(Norway)

Can rope climbing be used as an alternative training for climbing? I have a 1.5 diameter rope. What kind of grip strength is used on this sort of rope, is it only the crushing grip strength?

Answer:

Rope Climbing can be used to build strength. It is not going to be a direct correlation to actual rock climbing. I would suggest you try and do it without your legs. If you can already do that pull your legs up to make an L shape and than climb the rope.

This will help work your core.
