best gear
by: madmax

Me, I only go with the Edelrid Eddy.
in fact it's the best: it's feeding very well, doesn't complicate with ropes lesser than 10mm, and the best: the waying through of the rope is invers to grigri and cinch. first that's why it feeds better and no "correction" has to be made, 2nd it feeds in hanging mode, so that an headover-fall is not that problem anymore...

Rope soloing
by: Anonymous

Dear Joe,

IMHO the modified GriGri is the way to go. Once modified properly ("triangular" removed and small cable loop attached) I clip the GriGri directly into my harness (not the belay loop)with the handle towards my body. This position make cutting the rope less likely during a fall. The cable loop allows you to attach it to either a chest/gear harness or cris-crossed gear slings to position the GriGri above your waist oriented so it feeds smoothly. The advantages over the silent partner is that it is much lighter and has multiple uses. If you fall with the silent partner it is a pain to free up the device. With the GriGri you can self ascend back up to your high piece of pro or lower down. A grigri is much stronger than a cinch and much more user friendly. Just my opinion. Good luck. Chris

Try a Petzl Shunt. Works well and Cheaper than the GriGri.
