Shoes makes me blisters

by Tassos
(Cyprus)

I bought 3 pair of climbing shoes and all of them makes me get blisters on my foot, especially the big toe so I would have difficulties to wear the shoes and climb because each time I step on the rock its becoming really painful.

I ended up wearing mythos shoes that are the more comfortable, but those shoes are not helping me a lot to my performance, I really like my La Sportiva Katana but after a route i get blisters that makes me feel not comfortable on them and my confidence goes away!

Please let me know how to handle this unpleasant situation that holds me back to improve my climbing over routes that are on my limit!!

Thanks in Advance

Taz

Answer:

Finding the right climbing show can be tough especially if you are buying your first pair. As far as getting blisters on your toes here are some things I would suggest.

First when buying shoes be sure to try them on before hand and look for something somewhat comfortable. Even though many experts say to get them really tight I believe having them tight but comfortable is the way to go.

Next buy the right kind of shoe for your feet. If wearing lace ups feels good on your foot and wearing a slipper kills your toes don't where slippers. There are plenty of options for all types of shoes that you don't need a slipper or a lace up specifically for any type of climbing in my opinion.

If the shoes you wear are giving you blisters it could be because they are not broken in or they don't fit your foot well. Try wrapping athletic tape around the areas of your toe where you get blisters.

If you the blisters persist I suggest you try a different style or brand of shoe. Everyone fits into shoes differently and you need to find the best fit for your foot.
