Speed Climbing Techniques

by Oli
(Cumbria, UK)

Hi, I've been watching loads of The Nose speed attempts by the Huber bro's and can't figure out how they are both gaining upwards at the same time. one seems to be leading whilst the other seems to be jugging on the same rope. I don't understand how!?
Thanks

Answer:
On the speed attempts on the nose the Huber brothers do a lot of simulclimbing where they are both climbing at the same time. One is leading and one is following. During that time neither of them are on belay, but one person tied into one end of the rope and the other person on the other end.

If one person falls the other is going to fall. In fact you don't really want to fall at all while you simul.
