Tony Lamiche makes first ascent of ‘San ku Kai’ 9a

Tony Lamiche has made the first ascent of ‘San ku Kai’ 9a a route bolted by Yann Ghesquiers in Entraigues, Briançon. The route contains 20 moves in a big overhanging wall.

About the grade Tony said "If it’s not 9a it cannot be less".

This interview was done by Karin.com check them out.

Kairn : Who bolt San ku Kai?
Tony : It’s a nice line bolted by Yann Ghesquiers. We are lucky to have him
because he bolt a lot of routes. Without him we would not have anymore hard
routes to climb.

Kairn : What is the style of the route?
Tony : It’s really hard, resistance, not really my style. It’s a 20 move
route with compresions in a big roof or better a big big overhanging wall. A
lot of heels for a boulder style route with resistance.

Kairn : Do you grade it ??
Tony : If it’s not 9a it cannot be less.

Kairn : Were you the only one trying the route?
Tony : No, Diego (Yann Ghesquiers) and Olivier Fourbet are also trying it a
lot.

Kairn : Did you spend a lot of time on it?
Tony : I made runs all over the winter, even during the TAB. I gave all what
I could to do it. I probably made about 50 runs.

Kairn : Why such an interest in this route?
Tony : It was my last hard route in the area. And I nearly thought I wouldn't
tick it.

Kairn : What will you do now? Will you move?
Tony : No, I will stay in the Briançon area.
I still have routes to do, less difficult but as lovely.

Kairn : Your projects?
Tony : Beginning in september, I will leave for the US for 2 1/2 month bouldering trip.
I will go to Kentucky, at Red River Gorge where I will join some great
climbers. Then I will go to the Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) and then to Bishop.

Three weeks for each place
